Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
Traditional Chinese Medicine is an integral part of Chinese culture and
civilization. Over the thousand years of China's development, Chinese
Medicine has contribute significantly to the prosperity of China and to
the general health of Chinese people.
Nowadays,
even though western medicine is being used in providing medical and
health services worldwide, TCM, with its well-established system,
unique diagnostic methods, systematic approach, abundant historical
literature and materials, still attracts many attentions from the
international medical community.
TCM is well recognized for its remarkable effectiveness in off-setting
the side effect caused by the toxic and chemical treatment of cancer
cases in the western medical system.
Chinese
medicine was discovered and established thousands of years ago and
developed generations after generations.
The
earliest official medicine book «神农本草经
»(Shen Nong book) was published in Han Dynasty, it
recorded 365 different kinds of medicines;
The first and most important classic text of TCM had been completed in
about 200 BC. This book, known as the «黄帝四经& amp;
raquo; (Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine),
discussed the theory and philosophy of TCM as well as the therapeutic
benefits of acupuncture, herbs, diet and exercise.
At
Han dynasty (206 B.C. - 220 A.D.), another valuable classic, «伤
寒论»Treatise on Diseases Caused by Cold Factors
(Shang Han Lun) was written by Chang Chungching. This
classic is an authoritative practical guide to the treatment of illness
even to the present day.
At
Ming Dynasty (1368- 1644 A.D.), the renowned pharmacist Li Shizhen,
worked diligently nearly 30 years, compiled 1,920,000 characters of
medicine book «本草纲目» ( Native Chinese
Plants). This encyclopedic work recorded 1,892 kind of
Chinese native medicines with 1,111 fine illustrations in 52 volumes.
It also made the consummation medicine classification and the retrieval
system, formed the important framework for TCM herbology.
"Native Chinese Plants" is still referenced widely in today's Chinese
medicine and is regarded as"the Eastern Pharmacy Greatest Standard".
